AMIGOS is written and directed by Ivan Acosta, author of EL SUPER... Beginning in May of 1980, 130,000 Cubans departed from the Port of Mariel for Key West, Florida. Ramon is a Marielito, the new Cuban refugee. His adaptation to life in the United States is a difficult process. First he must overcome the negative stereotype associated with being a Marielito. Next, there is the matter of finding a job and otherwise integrating into North American Society. Through it all, he finds freedom, abundance, confusion, and deceit... but he also finds Amigos. The Miami News calls it a story of a Mariel Refugee told with warmth and humor. IN SPANISH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES
