Due to a medical condition, Suresh's (Sanjeev Kumar) wife passes away, leaving alone her mother (Durga Khote) and their two kids, Chunnu and Munni. Kids age as time goes forward. Suresh resists Durga Khote's request for him to remarry. Given Suresh's wealth, Khote's brother wants his daughter, Binda, to wed him. Suresh, however, does not like her. Meanwhile, Nirmala, a temporary teacher, replaces Munni and Chuunu's teacher as she departs on a month-long trip (Sharda). Kids quickly develop a fondness for Nirmala and get quite close to her. After witnessing Nirmala's compassion and affection for children, Suresh began to like her. She also likes Suresh, but she is unable to express her love for him due to her history. She keeps a diary that she writes in and gives it to Suresh. She had previously been violated by the kid of her father's acquaintance. Her inebriated father kills him and is sent in jail. Nirmala becomes pregnant as a result of the rape, and she raises the kid at an orphanage. Suresh still loves her despite knowing about her past and is willing to embrace her and her child. Suresh informs Khote that he wishes to wed Nirmala, but Khote is opposed to the marriage because Nirmala is a single mother. Nirmala's diary is given to Khote by Suresh, but she doesn't read it and keeps it in her locker. Since this marriage will only cause troubles for Suresh, Khote requests that Nirmala leave his life. Nirmala departs the city and visits a temple where she works for a Baba. When children learn that their mother has abandoned them, they flee the house in search of Nirmala. Bindu walks into Suresh's home on the other side in order to wed him. Suresh looked for kids but was unsuccessful. Children arrive at the same temple where Nirmala dwells, and she tells Suresh that she has children with her. As he enters the temple, Suresh calls for Nirmala to return to him on behalf of the children. Nirmala will only agree to return if Suresh marries someone else and she stays on as the housemaid. Suresh reluctantly accepts her request. Suresh and Bindu have agreed to get married. Suresh develops alcoholism after feeling depressed and let down. Even Khote has come to understand that Nirmala and Suresh are true soulmates and that Nirmala is the finest mother for the children. On the day of the wedding, Bindu finally departs with her boyfriend Asrani, aware that Suresh will never be her true love. And Khote acknowledges the relationship between Suresh and Nirmala.
