Prince Orloff and his wife, the Princess Elena, are in Petrograd when revolution breaks out. The Prince has become jealous of Vladimir, and while he is running from the mob he sees his wife entering Vladimir's house. Later in Paris, as exiles, Elena suddenly finds her husband serving as a waiter in a low cafe. His one desire is to find and kill Vladimir. Elena seeks Vladimir to persuade him to prove her innocence to her husband but Vladimir sees in the situation a chance for gratifying his own passion. At this moment Orloff bursts in on them, half crazed with drink and jealousy. There is a scene of great power in which Elena's maid confesses that it was she who, on the night of the revolution, fled to Vladimir's house muffled in the Princess's cloak. The way is obviously opened for forgiveness and reconciliation.
