Emily, a young girl who is dealing with the sudden loss of her mother. Richard, Emily's father, needs help taking care of her. The solution is Alberto, Emily's Argentinean Grandfather who is a complete stranger to her and speaks very little English. Although from opposite ends of the world, the tango gives Emily and Alberto the power to communicate with one another.
