A young boy named Tamás is caught between family tensions and personal identity in Hungary. His mother has returned from Hamburg with her young son, but family problems - including a broken home, alcohol-stricken parents, and fractured relationships - dominate their lives. After the death of his grandfather, Tamás is left in the care of his aunt Magda, who steps into a quasi-parental role. As the narrative unfolds, the film explores how the adult world's emotional chaos affects the child's inner life, challenging him to understand his place within his shifting family and environment.
