Marshall McKann, a coal magnate in Pittsburgh, Pa. attends a concert with his wife at the Carnegie Music Hall. An opera singer named Kitty Ayrshire is performing but McKann has little interest in music or the arts. He becomes enchanted by the beautiful singer who challenges his social ideas and his views on women. A short story by Willa Cather originally published in 1917.
