A documentary-essay by Jean-Luc Godard made in the aftermath of the May 1968 events in France. The film alternates between two kinds of images: scenes from student and worker demonstrations filmed during the strikes, and a long conversation among five people - two women and three men - sitting in a field on the outskirts of Paris. Throughout their discussion, the participants debate the causes and consequences of the social upheaval, the struggle between classes, the relationship between workers and students, the role of youth, and the limits of political action. With no conventional plot, Godard constructs a reflection on revolution, collective speech, and the meaning of political engagement. The film adopts a deliberately minimal and repetitive form, foregrounding raw dialogue and questioning how cinema can represent politics.
