A jobless 50-year-old is contemplating suicide when stopped by a man who tells a story of a 19th century American who was also considered a failure by the age of 22. The man failed as a lawyer and, forced into politics, was defeated twice for the office of Senator. This man turns out to be Abraham Lincoln.
