Alicia Heart and Marshall Gold, a journalist and a realtor by trade, are the telegenic hosts of Heart's Escape, an Atlanta-based real estate television show highlighting properties around the world. They have not only learned the good news that the show has been renewed for a third season, but that the network is moving it to prime time. The two dating in real life, Marshall thinks that it would make for good television for him, to start that third season, to propose to her on air. And while enjoying her job on the show and living in the big city, she feels the show could use a face lift, something producer Valerie dismisses in not wanting to tinker with success. Not having gone home in a while, she agrees to return to her small hometown of Cupid's Creek as it is the fiftieth anniversary of the Cupid's Ball, important this year as it is also being used as a fundraiser by the longtime mayor, Alicia's father, to protect the town against proposals by Davrow Developments, which would destroy many of the historic (but not officially designated as such) landmarks such as the Locke Bridge, which has symbolic locks placed on it like Pont des Arts in Paris, and the old Willow Oak House, which Alicia had always dreamed about buying if she ever lived in Cupid's Creek. One of the reasons Alicia has not attended the ball in ten years is that last time is when she turned down the surprise marriage proposal of her high school sweetheart Connor Willmore, who she loved but the two of them who she felt were moving in different directions, she wanting to experience life around the world while Connor was a Cupid's Creek boy through and through, he who did indeed stay in Cupid's Creek to fulfill his dream of opening his own bistro. En route to Cupid's Creek for the ball, Alicia comes into the possession of an hourglass pendant, which she will learn through its giver, Moira, that it will allow her a second chance to see what may have been. The big question is what if she had said yes to Connor's proposal ten years. What she discovers is that they still did not end up together ten years later for many of the same issues which tells her brain that something will always come between them despite she still having feelings for him, and seemingly he for her. But in the process, Alicia will discover what is important to her, and where Marshall fits into these feelings as she, her parents and the other townsfolk work to block the Davrow Development.
