Beautiful, vivacious Kate Swallow (Carole Bouquet) is a floor model at a posh London department store by day, and the wife of author Alec Bolton (Jonathan Pryce) at night. Her idyllic existence is thrown into turmoil when she finishes a novel and is courted, both professionally and romantically, by Alec's new publisher, crass Vanni Corso (Christopher Walken). When her husband objects to her writing career, and her publisher objects to her marriage, Kate is forced to make a decision between marriage, romance and the career she has always dreamed of.
