Princess Olympia was banished from the Austrian imperial court: her extravagant behavior almost drove her ex-husband to suicide. One day, when she falls from her horse while riding, American engineer Charles "Charlie" Foster, who is passing by, helps her back to her feet. The gentleman accompanies the unknown woman to a hunting lodge, where the two spend the night in separate beds. The next morning, Olympia is gone without revealing her true identity to Charlie. Back with her parents, Olympia receives two pieces of good news: the emperor has lifted her banishment, and Olympia is now to marry the Prussian Prince Ruprecht to secure a political alliance between the two states. But nothing is certain: at the first ball with her future husband, Charlie shows up, wanting to persuade Prince Philip, Olympia's father, to do business with the Americans in aluminum. The sight of the princess throws Charlie off balance, and soon the two of them are dancing across the room toward the exit and into the night. However, this fairy tale reunion has no future; the princess is determined to fulfill her responsibilities. Love is not necessarily part of a partnership. Charlie, on the other hand, wants nothing to do with an extramarital affair. Amidst the polite intrigues, the fear of a scandal before the wedding is high, and the young man becomes a danger. Against his word to remain silent about his past meetings with Olympia, Charlie demands only one thing: one last weekend alone with her.
