61 Grams

As the day begins, a woman packs a tin can of dog food from her refrigerator into her blue bag and carries it out to where a dog is tied up. She pops open the can of dog food, empties its contents in the dog's dish, and leaves the can near the dog. A man comes by to pet the dog and picks up the tin can. He brings it back to his apartment and uses it as an ash tray as he smokes. The man is an artist and notices the table setting before him. He sketches intently in a blue tablet. An old homeless man wanders by and finds the tin can in the garbage. While he quietly sits at the curb, people who pass on the street put their spare change in the tin can for him. A thief pretends to put money in the can but runs off with it. The homeless man throws his cane at the thief in disgust. Safely away, the thief fills his pocket with the change and tosses the can aside. Later, a woman wanders by, kicks the can, and then tosses the can into a dumpster. A young man arrives home to hang a new painting. It is a picture of the can on a table next to a can opener. Meanwhile, insects have infested the can.
