Michelle has two teenage daughters, a loving husband, a dog, a cat, a successful surgical sales company, and an endless pile of laundry. She is about to turn 40 years old. Life is so busy, she can't remember what she did for her last birthday. That won't happen this year. The Western States Endurance Run is an ultra-marathon which starts near Squaw Valley, California and winds 100 miles through the Sierra Nevada mountains along an old gold miners path. Qualifying racers only get one day to finish. No stopping. No sleeping. Just a pair of trail running shoes and the ability to ignore an unbelievable amount of pain. Competitors face 106 degree heat, 18,000 feet of elevation gain, and the dangers of running in the dead of night with small pins of light. That's like running over Mount McKinley with blinders on. Whether you're a 71 year old cancer survivor or a housewife or an elite athlete, we all have to make extremely difficult choices and sacrifices to achieve anything of significance.
