Whether you're into classic series, the latest releases, or anything anime-adjacent, this year's SDCC has something to wow every fan. Nothing perseveres in fans' memories quite like an iconic episode, and an equally iconic meme. The Pokémon episode titled, "Here Comes the Squirtle Squad" debuted in the US in September of 1998, and this weekend at SDCC, Jazwares immortalized the beloved sunglasses-wearing Pokémon gang into a five-plush set for purchase for the first time in this SDCC-exclusive box set for $100.
BAIT showed off its luxx One Piece collection at its booth, but the standout was definitely this beautifully embroidered BAIT x One Piece Men's Kaido embroidered jacket in black. The front features a running Luffy and the bottom edge of the back of the jacket reads, "There is Only One Winner, Luffy vs. Kaido." You can still nab this piece on the BAIT website for $180 while supplies last.
Unbox Industries showed off its incredible greytone busts inspired by legendary manga artist Junji Ito at its booth, including (from left to right) the Junji Ito's Kaibako Wave 2 blind box series "Ice Cream Man" and "Mayumi" figures, and the Uzumaki Kirie Goshima Supersize Bust. Limited stock was available at the booth, and they're all sold out on the website.
We love a team up of epic proportions! And we love it even more when it's free! Viz gave away these bright totes with any $20 purchase at its booth at SDCC this year, featuring two of its hottest titles, One Punch Man and Rooster Fighter. Shop in style with two of the hottest titles being distributed by Viz.
The Tamashii Nations booth was full of its usual high standard of incredible figures, but I stopped in my tracks when I spotted the Super Sailor Moon figure (right) for the first time in person. Although this was released a few years ago and was sold out, the booth had an available supply for sale at SDCC this year. It's not available online again yet, but keep your eyes peeled!
Gundam Wing celebrated its 30th anniversary in style this year at SDCC with a huge booth complete with mecha wings and a chance for fans to get their hands on the new Gundam Card Game Starter Decks, Gundam Assemble Starter Decks, Booster Packs and accessories for the game. The lines were epic, but the fans were excited to get their hands on this one!
The hot new vinyl fig maker, Rokimoto, debuted a limited collection of its Astro Boy collaboration blind box sets at SDCC. Fans could score one of four figures, featuring Astro Boy or Uran in a standing or sitting position in their signature ramen cup-style packaging, each for $15.
Good Smile Company's chibi-style figures are still a hit with anime fans after all these years, and for good reason. Throwing it back to 2006, the company released the cutest little Nana Osaki figure from the anime Nana last year which sold out, but luckily it brought it back for SDCC for $45 at its booth.
Tamashii Nations released this enormous figure of Dragon Ball's Great Ape Vegeta as a SDCC exclusive this year at its booth. This chonky boy absolutely drove crowds to snap it up before they sold out at the equally chonky price of $220. Dragon Ball fans know what they want!
Live your Demon Slayer dreams in this comfy and cute poncho inspired by the pattern on Nezuko's kimono, created by Elhoffer Designs. This poncho has little pockets on the side and has a beautiful drape to it. Fans clamored around this charming item and were able to try it on before buying at the Elhoffer Designs booth at SDCC. You can still snap up this item on the Elhoffer Designs web site for $100.
These high quality bottle openers by Steve Minty take iconic weapons and props from your favorite anime and make them into a functional accessory to open bottles. From Sailor Moon to Demon Slayer to Genshin Impact and more, Steve's booth had a bevy of options for anime fans. The openers are all made of polished metal and have a great weight to them if you choose to turn them into a fashion accessory instead.
Rye Design created this pop art-inspired baseball piece featuring everyone's favorite radioactive big guy. Sports and Godzilla are the mashup that we need! This small canvas was previously featured on Rye's Etsy store, but made its way to SDCC this year for the lucky fans who could get a hold of one.
I love when artists make their love of anime into wearable fashion, and Guayaba Art did a great job at that with this adorable Delicious In Dungeon unisex button-down shirt. It's always nice to see small artists doing well at huge conventions like SDCC.
Now you can Catch 'Em All with the combination of music and Pokémon you never knew you needed! I loved spotting this unique take on the ocarina at SDCC this year, which are handmade by folks at Songbird Ocarina. You can even get a companion songbook of Pokémon music you can learn to boot!
This newly released artbook is a stunning 300-plus page collection showcasing the legendary Shirow Masamune's career, from early works like Black Magic and Ghost in the Shell to game illustrations and magazine art. Compiled for his first major exhibition, it highlights Shirow's precision, innovation, and influence across cyberpunk and fantasy genres and was available for preorder for the first time at the Kodansha booth at SDCC.
To mark the anniversary of the super popular game and anime series Beyblade, Hasbro created a limited edition 25th Anniversary set featuring attack blades from each generation of the anime series. Beyblade's Dragoon Storm, Beyblade Metal Fight's Storm Pegasis, Beyblade Burst's Victory Valkyrie, and Beyblade X's Dran Sword blades all come in the collection, featured opposite the character known for using each one, along with launchers. If you didn't grab this at SDCC for $79.99, limited quantities will be released to retailers after the con.
It certainly is the year for luxury One Piece wearable goods! Loungefly debuted this beautiful bag shaped like the iconic Going Merry from One Piece. Featuring real rope, embroidery, and padded appliques, the beloved vessel of the straw hat crew can be yours for $120. Even though this item debuted at SDCC, you can still get this purse on Loungefly's web site while supplies last.
This Amazing Yamaguchi figure brings Attack on Titan's Eren Yeager to life in his Titan form, with detailed muscle sculpting, dynamic shadow painting, and a highly articulated body suitable for recreating his poses straight from the anime. This high quality figure was featured at the Kaiyodo booth at SDCC.
The threezero booth showcased this stunning JOJO's figure at SDCC, and boy, does it come with accessories! This highly detailed 29.3 cm (11.5 in) tall figure comes with 33 points of articulation, featuring original sculpts and painted head parts, articulated eyeballs, and a fabric costume with poseable metal wires in the braids and jacket edges. It includes three interchangeable face plates, a Requiem Arrow, a frog, a lighter, a flower, a cellphone, a wallet, Mista's revolver, and GASP six sets of interchangeable hands for dynamic posing. At $179, this JOJO is worth its weight in… hands, I guess. If you missed it at SDCC you can still snap it up on thgreezero's site.
Outside of the convention hall, Crunchyroll created "Crunchyroll Anime Fanfest" with a huge footprint over at the Rady Shell concert venue behind the con building, complete with sprawling lawns, food stands, anime activations, live music all day, nightly fireworks, and of course, an impressive merch booth. It was my first time seeing the SPY x FAMILY vinyl set in person and it was a slick-looking box collection of four vinyl records that comes with a collectors box, four art prints, and four sleeves for vinyls within. At $135, this was a great value at their merch booth during the convention, but you can still purchase the set on Crunchyroll's web site.
