• Born to film director and producer William A․ Wellman, he grew up surrounded by Hollywood celebrities and was on films sets as a young child
• He starred alongside his daughter Cathy Wellman in the 1983 thriller "The Prodigal Planet․"
• His first film appearances were in two of his father's works "Lafayette Escadrille" and "Darby's Rangers․"
• In addition to starring in the film, he also scripted "The Prodigal Planet" in 1983
• After graduating from high school he attended Duke University, but dropped out to pursue an acting career
