  • He and son John became the first father-son team to win at the same Oscar ceremony, both receiving a statue for "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre"
  • Won a New York Critic's Circle Award for his work in 1934's "Dodsworth", a role her initially originated for the stage production of the same name
  • Father of John Huston and grandfather of actors Danny and Anjelica Huston
  • Made his stage debut at 19, all while working a job in construction to support himself while a student at the Shaw School of Acting
  • Quote: "I was certainly a better actor after my five years in Hollywood․ I had learned to be natural -- never to exaggerate -- using my ordinary voice, eliminating gestures, keeping everything extremely simple․"
  • After traveling across America with various vaudeville acts, he would make his Broadway debut in 1924 before eventually taking on Hollywood following the end of silent films
  • Became the first actor to perform 'September Song' on stage in the Broadway production of "Knickerbocker Holiday", a number that continues to be rerecorded today
