- After seeing Helen Hayes star in Victoria Regina in 1936, she realized she wanted to pursue a career in acting

- Following an illustrious film career throughout the '40s and '50s, she would return to the stage in 1962
- Discovered by Sam Goldwyn in 1940 and immediately signed to five-year contract and cast in "The Little Foxes", a role that would land her an Academy Award nomination the following year
- A star of "The Pride of the Yankees" in 1942, her name was called amongst the ball players in 2005 following her death
