  • During the beginning of his film career in England, he was known for appearing in historical costume dramas like "The Man in Grey" and "Caesar and Cleopatra․"
  • The huge success of "King Solomon's Mines" and "Scaramouche" earned him both a contract with MGM and a great popularity with American audiences
  • MGM brought him under contract in order to compete with Warner Bros․'s Errol Flynn in their big-budget Technicolor films
