• Created the Steve Nash Foundation to aid in the health and personal development of underserved children
• Played basketball for Santa Clara University, from which he graduated with a degree in sociology in 1996
• Came from an athletic family, with his father playing semi-professional soccer and his mother playing netball, and his younger brother, Martin, went on to become a professional soccer player
• Was drafted by the Phoenix Suns during the first round of the 1996 NBA Draft
• After retiring from basketball, he became the general manager of the Senior Mens National Team in Canada and part-owner of the Vancouver Whitecaps
• Best known as a former professional basketball player who played point guard for the Phoenix Suns and the Dallas Mavericks
• Returned to his home town of Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2010 as a CBS correspondent for the World Cup
