• Won a Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series for "The Wonder Years" in 1989
• Won the Critics Award at the Avoriaz Fantastic Film Festival for "House" in 1986
• Started out as a production assistant on an industrial film followed by a job doing sound effects for "Wide World of Sports Car Racing Events․"
• Became interested in film as a child when his mother, who was a film librarian, would bring home movies for the family to watch
• Best known as the director of "Friday the 13th Parts 2 & 3," "Halloween H2O: 20 Years Later," and "Lake Placid․"
• He enhanced his editing skills by working for New York art film makers and the National Hockey League
• He was making educational films for the Time-Life Corporation when a film crew came to Westport to shoot "Last House on the Left" in 1972 and was able to convince the producers to hire him as a production assistant
