• At the age of 17, she first competed as Miss Teen USA, representing her home state of Rhode Island
• After being crowned Miss New York in 1995, she would eventually be named the runner-up at that year's Miss USA competition, however, when the winner was ultimately named Miss Universe, she would assume the crown
