• Winner of a BAFTA Scotland Award in 2002 for Best Television Performance for "The Book Group․"
• While rock climbing, he fell more than 70 feet, breaking both ankles, an arm, a wrist and fracturing his skull, but thanks to a friend who witnessed the fall, survived and recovered
• Appeared in commercials for Scott's Porage Oats, in which he walked around in a kilt while keeping warm by eating his porridge
• Before getting into acting, he worked as a gardener for estates in the south of Glasgow, as well as a painter on the Forth Road Bridge
