• In 1999 he was awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire and Knight Bachelor of the Order of the British Empire later in 2003 at the Queen’s Birthday Honours, recognizing his services to Unicef
• Out of nine award nominations, he has won eight of them including a Star on the Walk of Fame and a Lifetime Achievement Award
• After turning 18 he was conscripted for the national service and commissioned into the Royal Army Service Corps, eventually becoming a captain and commanded small depots in west Germany
• His first film appearance was as an extra when he was 17, appearing in "Caesar and Cleopatra," in which he was able to meet his idol Stewart Granger
