• After dropping out of high school to enlist in the U․S․ Army, served his two years and started hitch-hiking from Los Angeles to Broadway, stopping in Indiana to visit an aunt where he worked with a local civic theatre group and as a radio announcer
• Despite his appearances across all genres of TV, film and theatre, most well-known for his science fiction roles, including 1977's "Empire of the Ants" and "Star Trek" episode "Assignment: Earth․"
• Appeared in over two dozen episodes of "Kung Fu: The Legend Continues" before his health started failing due to cancer and was written out of the series, his last episode airing a month after his death later that year
• Original guest appearance on "Star Trek" episode "Assignment: Earth" was written as a springboard for an intended spin-off series with actress Terri Garr, but the show never started off
• Between 1991 and 1993, was acting president of The Players, a famous theatrical club in New York City
• His stage name he borrowed from the capital city of Michigan
