• Played in The 6th Annual David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic Tournament to raise money to support pediatric critical care in New England and the Dominican Republic
• Attended the University of North Carolina where he played for the school's basketball team who eventually made it to the 1991 NCAA Final Four
• Earned his bachelor's degree in radio, television and motion pictures in 1991
• Married actress and former Miss America Vanessa Williams from 1999 to 2005
• Drafted by 24th overall by the Boston Celtics in the 1991 NBA draft
• After suffering a nagging foot injury during the 2002 season, he would officially retire two seasons later and turn to acting full time
• Made his feature film debut in 1994, but would eventually gain widespread acclaim for his acting abilities on HBO's "Oz" after being approached about a starring role by filmmaker Spike Lee
• Opened a production company called 1744 Entertainment
