• Started out as a messenger boy at Columbia Pictures in 1933 and went on to work in the scripts and locations departments
• Best known as an assistant director and production manager who worked on "Mr․ Smith Goes to Washington," "The Rose Tattoo" and "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid․"
• Often worked with legendary directors King Vidor, Frank Capra and Cecil B․ DeMille
• Founded the Studio Process Body Co․ in 1944, which rented car and truck bodies to film studios for close-up scenes
• Attended one of the first meetings that led to the formation of the Screen Directors Guild, later called the Directors Guild of America, in 1936 and joined the guild as a first assistant director the following year
