• Attended Stanford University before leaving early to join the U․S․ Navy during WWII, but later returned to the Actors Studio in New York further his education
• Directly related to pioneer Daniel Boone
• After succumbing to throat cancer at the age of 63, his ashes were scattered across the Pacific Ocean
• Before launching his acting career, he would serve as an aviation gunner in the Pacific during WWII
