• Was nominated for an Art Directors Guild Award for Excellence in Production Design for "TRON: Legacy" in 2011
• Graduated with honors from the Art Center College of Design in 1990
• Appeared in several small roles, including a short stint on "General Hospital," before deciding to become a designer
• After college, he started a design company with his roommate and studio partner, Scott Robertson, designing a variety of products including medical supplies and action figures
• Was inspired to get into the entertainment industry by the sci-fi movies he watched in his youth, particularly the "Star Wars" franchise
• Worked as a teacher at the Art Center campus in Switzerland, and later at the Art Center in Los Angeles, the Otis College of Art and Design, and The Gnomon School of Visual Effects
• Best known as a creature and concept designer for film and television
• Has worked on the creature designs of several films, including "Avatar," "TRON: Legacy," "Prometheus," and "Star Trek Into Darkness․"
• Is one of the judges on the Syfy reality competition series "Face Off," which challenges special effects make-up artists to create Hollywood movie monsters
