He started studying theater at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts of Paris after World War II in 1947 with teacher Denis d'Inès and graduated with honors in 1950
He was born in Safi, Morocco, and spent the first seven years of his life with his father engineer Paul Galabru who participated in the construction of the first port of the city
He performed the character of village chief Abraracourcix in the family comedy “Asterix and Obelix vs․ Caesar” starring Christian Clavier, Gérard Depardieu and Roberto Benigni in 1999
