• Entertained U․S․ troops during World War II and appeared in several propaganda films
• Made her screen acting debut in the film "On Their Own" in 1940
• Started out as a typist and switchboard operator before she was convinced by her friends to become a model and joined the John Powers agency
• Was introduced to Howard Hughes by her then-boyfriend Sherman Fairchild and was offered a contract after Hughes liked her screen test, although she later signed with 20th Century Fox

• Began performing on stage later in her career, playing the role of Sylvia in "The Women․"
