  • Initially got her start as a singer-songwriter in 1976 on "The Gong Show", but would soon sign an acting contract
  • Best known for her role in numerous made-for-television movies over the course of her career that have included "Off the Minnesota Strip", "The Thorn Birds" and most recently, "Hatfields & McCoys"
  • Became a member of the 1980s group, the 'Brat Pack' after filming "St․ Elmo's Fire"
  • Learned sign language for her role in 1985's "Love is Never Silent"
  • Has released several albums of folk music
