• Of the eight award nominations he has received for "Knots Landing" he has won six of them, including five Soap Opera Digest Awards
• Before his acting career began, he worked with the Long Island Rail Road as a trainman, brakeman, and conductor, after which he worked as a bartender and waiter in a Manhattan restaurant
• Quote: "I've lost two friends to AIDS, so if I can lend my support in helping out then I will do that․ I'm also involved with the Special Olympics, which covers a wide variety of diseases․"
• Starred on the first season of the TV series "F/X: The Series," after which he appeared on "One Life to Live" and "The Bold and the Beautiful․"
• After signing a contract with Universal Studios in 1972, he won a part on the TV series "Kojak," and remained on the show for all five seasons
• After the death of Dan Frazer in 2011, he is the only living original cast member of the 1973 series "Kojak․"
• Was the casting director's first choice as the main character in "Magnum, P․I․," but turned it down and it eventually went to Tom Selleck
