• Considered by many to be one of the best point guards of all time, he holds the NBA records for most career assists and steals
• Was inducted into the U․S․ Olympic Hall of Fame as a member of the "Dream Team" that won the gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics
• During the 1993-94 season, he became only the third player in NBA history, after Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson, to achieve 9,000 career assists
• Played basketball for Gonzaga University, where he was the first player in the school's history to score more than 1,000 points and 500 assists
