• Established the John Starks Foundation in 1993 to provide positive opportunities for disadvantaged youth and communities
• Over four years, he attended four different colleges, Rogers State Community College, Northern Oklahoma Community College, Tulsa Junior College and Oklahoma State University
• Decided he wanted to become a professional basketball player at a young age, and his mother and grandmother were particularly supportive in helping him achieve his goal
• Signed his first, if short-lived, NBA contract with the Golden State Warriors as a free agent in 1988, then went on to play in the CBA and WBL until catching the eye of a New York Knicks scout
• Only played high school basketball for one year
• In 2003, he was named the Alumni and Fan Development Advisor for the New York Knicks
• Spent eight years playing for the New York Knicks, then went on to play for several other NBA teams
• Performed "The Dunk" in the final minute of New York's win over Chicago in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, which went down as one of the most memorable highlights in the history of the New York Knicks
• Enjoys watching basketball, spending time with his family and playing golf in his free time
• Released an autobiography called "John Starks: My Life" in 2004
