• He shares a Bronze Wrangler with his wife and other actors of TV series "The Virginian," which they won in 1968 for Fictional Television Drama
• Started his career on radio, he was the voice and host of "The March of Time," until leaving and moving west to start his acting career
• His trademark is playing roles as police chiefs, judges, western characters, and eccentric loners
• Started acting when he was 40, however this did not stop him from starring in over 60 films
• Never had a lead role in film, but he was prominent on TV starring in NBC/ABC series "Wagon Train," where he appeared in more than 150 episodes
• While appearing on the radio together, he met Jeanette Nolan and later married her in 1935, remaining and starring in films together until his death
