  • Started out as an assistant sports editor for the Hollywood Citizen-News
  • Was hired by play-by-play announcer Bob Kelley as a writer at KMPC in 1951 and soon had him filling in on air
  • Best known as a radio sports commentator for KMPC and KLAC whose daily radio shows featured a number of sound effects and audio clips
  • During the 1960s he worked both as an announcer for KLAC and as a nightly sports reporter for Channel 7
  • Began including audio clips for humor in his show in 1973, when he used segments of the "Casablanca" song "As Time Goes By" in his reports about two New York Yankees players who were swapping wives
  • Produced his radio show entirely on his own and did all of his own research and writing
  • Had more than 500 audio tapes containing the clips from famous sports personalities for his show, sometimes using up to 50 for one half-hour show
  • Some of his most popular audio clips were "Who goofed? I've got to know" and "He's gone the Leonard Tose route․"
