• Started out as an understudy for the Bird in Hand theater company
• Made her screen acting debut in the film "Bureau of Missing Persons" in 1933
• Best known for her role as Rita Moore in "Fugitive in the Sky" and as Kate Sanger in "The Constant Nymph․"
• Taught drama classes at Stephens College from 1966 to 1976 and later at the State University of New York at Stony Brook
• Appeared in Broadway productions of "The Truth Game," "Life Begins," and "Peter Ibbetson․"
• Was blacklisted by Hollywood in the 1950s along with several other film industry members who were suspected to be Communists
• Was one of the founders and organizers of the American Guild of Variety Artists in 1939
