• Started his entertainment career as a child vaudeville performer
• Worked in distribution for some time, but eventually be grew weary of selling theaters what he believed were poor quality films, so he set out to produce, direct and write his own
• Worked as a theater usher and rose to movie publicity
• Best known for the cult classic horror film "The Blob," along with other horror and science fiction pictures
• Over the course of his career, he distributed over 1,000 films
• In the tradition of Alfred Hitchcock, he often made cameo appearances in his own films
• His biography was included in "Return of the B Science Fiction and Horror Heroes" by Tom Weaver
• Enlisted in the U․S․ army, serving for over 4 years and earning a distinguished military record
• Tom Weaver interviewed him for "Fangoria" in 1986 for an article called "The Father of the Blob․"
• Would draw caricatures of the movies stars who came through his town to perform as a child
