• Began training and acting while in school, studying at London's Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and spending tow years at the Salisbury Playhouse
• Appeared in the miniseries "Around the World in 80 Days" in 1989, and later was casted in the 2004 movie of the same name, but portrayed a different character
• Made his TV breakthrough with "Edge of Darkness," playing Harcourt in the award-winning series
• Spent four years with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and appearing in the Broadway production of "Nicholas Nickleby․"
• Has portrayed Winston Churchill in multiple occasions, including episodes of "Doctor Who," the production of "Never So Good," and the stage version of "The King's Speech․"
• Was the original choice for the role of Illyrio Mopatis in "Game of Thrones," but due to scheduling conflicts the role was eventually given to Roger Allam
• Made his American screen breakthrough in "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls," playing opposite Jim Carrey
