• Lead the American League in stolen bases (60) and triples (11) during the 1988 season
• A scout for the Cincinnati Reds gave him his card after a Little League game when he was 14 and told him he had a chance to play in the major leagues
• Drafted in the fourth round of the 1979 draft by the San Diego Padres, but he opted out of the MLB and played for the Canada College Colts
• Growing up, he was a fan of the San Francisco Giants
