• Honored with a star on the St․ Louis Walk of Fame in 2004
• Several of his films have landed on AFI's list of 100 Funniest Movies including "Ghostbusters", "Groundhog Day", "Caddyshack", "Animal House" and many others
• Graduated from St․ Louis' Washington University in 1966 before returning to his native Chicago two years later to work as a public school teacher

• After writing for "SCTV" during it's first three years on air, he would transition to writing for film, eventually moving out to Hollywood before taking directing duties as well
• Got his first national industry exposure after fellow Second City troupe member John Belushi invited him to record The National Lampoon Radio Hour in New York City in 1973
• Has held numerous odd jobs including a position at a mental institution in St․ Louis and another as an editor for Playboy magazine
