• In 1995, he was inducted into the Palm Springs Walk of Stars
• Was inducted into the Hollywood Westerner's Hall of Fame
• Won the 1962 Taormina International Film Festival's Golden Charybdis award
• In 1986, he was the recipient of the Golden Boot Award
• Attended the University of Montana, where he majored in architecture
• In December 1943, he got married to entertainer Dinah Shore
• Starred in many B-plus horse operas in the late 1930s and eventually graduated into more credible leading roles in the 1940s
• Built 11 houses, some of which housed his friends and family, and made so much custom furniture for his friends that he had to open a factory
• During World War II, he served in the U․S․ Army Air Force
• Took up sculpture in 1975, completing 50 pieces during his first 10 years practicing the hobby, including an elaborate bronze statue called "Custer's Last Stand․"
