• Won the Laurel Ward for Screen Writing Achievement in 1990 from the Writers Guild of America
• Graduated from Yale University after becoming a member of the Phi chapter of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity
• Was in the Naval Reserves during World War I, then turned to writing after the war
• Often satirized American high society, most notably in "The Philadelphia Story․"
• Was a member of the Algonquin Round Table, a group of writers, critics, actors and others whose lunchtime conversations led to national newspaper columns and creative collaboration
• Was friends with Ernest Hemingway, and served as the model for the Bill Gorton character in the other author's "The Sun Also Rises․"
