Fast Facts

• Received a Bachelor's degree at McGill University School of Law and an additional Bachelor's in Communication Arts from Loyola University in Montreal, Canada
• Worked for the National Film Board of Canada when he was 22 years old
• After working for several small horror films in Montreal, eventually became vice president of production for Cinepix, now known as Lions Gate Films, where he produced director David Cronenberg's early films
• Started in the entertainment business as a cast driver for director Robert Altman's 1971 film "McCabe and Mrs․ Miller" before working as a gofer, production assistant and location manager for a number of early Canadian feature films
• Quote: "(On being a producer) "I'm not one of those producers who is strictly an agent, or I found the script and I don't know what goes on the set․ I know what every person on that set does and I know how to do their job almost as well as them in many instances․""
• Branched out into theatre and was part of the production team for the off-Broadway hit "Evil Dead: The Musical," a campy homage to cult horror films "Evil Dead" and "Evil Dead 2․"
• Head of production for Astral Films, a Canadian film distributor, before starting his own production company in 1980
• Board member for the Mayor's Film Board in the City of Toronto, the Canadian Media Production Association and the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television
