Don Bexley Biography

• Died in his home at 87 years old due to heart and kidney failure
• Began his career as a stand-up comic on the Chitlin' Circuit, a comedy tour which traveled exclusively to venues which were safe for African-American performers during the days of racial segregation
• First became acquainted with future co-star Redd Foxx as a stand-up comic
• His most famous role came as Bubba Bexley, a good friend of Redd Foxx's titular character Fred Sanford on "Sanford and Son․"
• Was known for recording party albums and performing stand-up alongside partner Dave Turner
• Was made an honorary pallbearer at the funeral of friend and co-star Redd Foxx
• Following a career that included guest spots on series such as "Laverne & Shirley," "Cheers" and "T․J․ Hooker," Bexley retired from his life of show business, moving back home to Virginia
