  • Starting acting as a teen while growing up in New York City, eventually making it to the Broadway stage in the 1975 play "What the Wine Sellers Buy," as well as her film debut in the novel-based film, "Mandingo․"
  • Has appeared on a number of TV series including "The Cosby Show," "General Hospital," and "Charmed․"
  • In 2008 she returned to and signed a long-term contract for "All My Children," which ended its TV run in 2011, but continues an Internet version that premiered in June 2013
  • When nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series" category in 2009, she made daytime TV history by being the first African-American actress to receive the nomination
