• Won a Special Achievement Award at the 1988 London Critics Circle Film Awards
• Won an Academy Fellowship at the 1997 BAFTA Awards
• Won Grammy Awards for the songs "Holiday for Strings," "Our Waltz" and "The Stripper" as well as the albums "Like Young" and "Like Blue․"
• Attended the Chicago College of Music, and while studying there, he worked as standby pianist for NBC radio, where he first started arranging music
• Formed the David Rose Orchestra for Mutual Broadcasting System after being invited to Hollywood
• Started playing piano for Ted Fiorito's dance band in Chicago when he was 16
• His most famous compositions were "The Stripper," "Holiday for Strings" and "Calypso Melody․"
• Known for writing the themes and background music for such television series as "Highway Patrol, " "Sea Hunt," "Bonanza" and "Highway to Heaven․"
• A live steam hobbyist, he had his own backyard railroad
• Was a member of the national fraternity for men in music, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia
