In 2010 he was honored with a Ralph Lowell Award from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which is the most prestigious award in public TV
The Shorenstein Center at the Harvard Kennedy School honored him with the Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism in 2010
His career began in South Africa as a journalist, producing for BBC-TV and producing films dealing with race and religion
In 1973 he came to the US, producing and directing national documentaries for KOCE, including his film "Deep South, Deep North․"
After a determination to present more foreign stories to audiences, he created "Frontline/World․"
In 1982 he teamed with director Antony Thomas and produced "Frank Terpil: Confessions of a Dangerous Man," resulting in an Emmy Award for Best Investigative Documentary
In 1983 he became the executive producer of "Frontline," which over 30 seasons has received 46 Emmy Awards, 27 DuPont-Columbia University Awards, 15 Peabody Awards and 11 Robert F․ Kennedy Journalism Awards
