Fast Facts

• Served in the U․S․ Navy during the Korean War as an air controller and radio DJ at Guantánamo Bay
• Studied pre-law at the University of Nebraska in order to become a lawyer like the other men in his family, but switched to New York's Neighborhood Playhouse when he decided to pursue acting
• First appeared in a community theater production of "Life With Father" when he was 10 years old
• Earned his first Broadway credits in 1956 after replacing Walter Matthau in "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?"

• Also worked as a voice actor, playing Grandpa Lou Pickles in "Rugrats" and Pepe the Cricket in "The Adventures of Pinocchio․"
• Gained widespread recognition after completing the role of Bosley from 1976 to 1981 on the original "Charlie's Angels" television series
• Was a frequent participant on "Match Game" throughout the late '70s and early '80s
• Was a classmate of Johnny Carson at the University of Nebraska
