• Made his professional stage debut at seven-years-old and eventually went on to tour throughout Ireland as a child actor
• Formed his own stage production company in 1947 that would go on to produce shows in Dublin, Paris and New York City
• Joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1963 and later the Old Vic the following year
• Offered the initial role of "Doctor Who" in 1963
• Tried to convince his six children to avoid the entertainment industry and even went so far as to never allow a television in the house
